Beyond the Prius

When Toyota of Des Moines opened its doors years ago, people came to recognize (the late) Charles Gabus as a man who gave much to his community. All too often stories coining the loss of a great leader end in the demise of an organization and a loss of its customers. Perhaps this is where the story of Toyota of Des Moines really begins – enter, Steve Luebke. A man rich in industry experience and a desire to give back, Steve beholds two simple philosophies  that has led this dealership to great achievements and long-term success:

#1: Treat every single person who walks through their doors the same way they would expect to be treated.

#2: Once someone has become a Toyota customer, he or she is a customer for life.

These two principles create a spirit you’ll see in everything they do at Toyota of Des Moines and has earned them the President’s Cabinet Award for the past 4 years. Translation? They are one of the Top 12 Toyota Dealers in the Nation, ranking them in the top 1% of all Toyota dealers and the #1 Toyota dealer in Iowa!

Kari and I love feeling like rock star customers at Toyota of Des Moines, their service department is second-to-none. When asked to detail what it is that makes them so unique, Ron Short, Service Manager sheds some light. They go to great lengths for satisfaction like offering services (shuttle, rental, pick-up/delivery, etc.) that keep their customers from missing a beat when their buggy is in for some TLC. He said his small town roots help to cultivate a personal, friendly service experience while having the advantages of a large facility. “Providing service is not just an action but a feeling, an emotion within us.” Well said, accurately described.

Great atmosphere and services aside, it was because of our mutual values and focus upon building community that has Urban515 so proud to partner with these folks. (Starting last month select patrons receive the Urban Card as a gift of appreciation from Toyota DSM! Pretty sweet!)

Allow us to illustrate YET ANOTHER layer we’re excited about. At Toyota, they believe an auto company can also be a vehicle for change. They support numerous programs focused upon environmenteducation and safety initiatives that help strengthen diverse communities across the U.S. Take their twenty-year partnership with the National Center for Family Literacy (NCFL), for example:

In 2008, Toyota and the National Audubon Society launched TogetherGreen. A $20 million Toyota grant will fund Together Green for five years which has three major components: LeadGreen, GrowGreen, BeGreen, GoGreen!

Toyota Des Moines is also proud to partner with nonprofit organizations in the community where we live and work. Most recently, they decided to Adpot-A-Family from Children and Families of Iowa, and support Bras for the Cause, Ronald McDonald House, and Child Serve.

The grand finale? Since 1991, Toyota has contributed over half a billion dollars to philanthropic programs in the U.S.! Wow, that’s a whole-lotta local love. Thanks Toyota and Toyota of Des Moines for your forward thinking and grounded practices that go far beyond the Prius.
